Once again the end of a sailing season is almost upon us which heralds winter and, of course, the annual Victor Harbor Yacht Club ‘Rum Race’.

The 2011 Rum Race will be held on Sunday the 1st of May.

The race is becoming one of the ‘must-do’ events on the SA sailing calendar with over 65 entries last year competing in four divisions: small and large Monohulls, Cats and Trailerables.

The race takes place in Encounter bay, Victor Harbor between the yacht club and ‘The Bluff’, passing around the Southern side of Granite Island, over a variety of courses to suit different boat speeds and designs (weather permitting).

Trailerable yachts will start close to the Bluff boat ramp at 12pm.

For convenience, nominations and course details will be available here before launching.

All other classes will start at the Victor Harbor Yacht Club at 1pm.

Nominations and course details will be available in the boatshed prior to this.

Of course the race prize is of Rum, hence the name!

(over 18’s only! Winners under 18 years will be awarded a different prize)

Prizes will be given to the line honours boat in each division as well as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners on corrected time after current VYC yardstick ratings have been applied.

As an extra incentive to classes and associations who can get 10+ boats to the race an additional divisional prize will be awarded.

Presentations will be made as soon as practicable after the race.

Competitors are welcome to enjoy the country club hospitality whilst awaiting results and presentations as we serve hot food and cold drinks after the race.

Victor Harbor Yacht Club acknowledges the kind assistance of the Goolwa and Victor Harbor Sea Rescue Squadron in the running of the event and helping to ensure the safety of competitors.
